Drip... Drip... Clang!

Drip… Drop… Clang!
Drip drop, it sounded like a little mouse in the gutter.
Ding, a little light in the lounge lit up.

Mum put our couch in front of the sliding door in case it broke.

Slam!, slam!, slam!, Mum's tunnel house door kept on slamming
and a bar in the tunnel house was bent, and at the back window broke
as well as a fence.

While the Storm was going, and we had no power, my siblings and I
made some fun activities in the garage, Smoke from the barbeque rose
to the roof and out the door. My siblings and I ran around outside
like animals!

Flying carpet! The wind blew up air into the carpet it looked funny!

When the storm stopped we drove to Feltham, Big tree roots came
out. My Uncle has 6 big sheds and the doors broke, all of them did
Uncle get disappointed.

The Black Out

The Blackout

Suddenly the lights started to flicker and the room went dark. Dad  got the candles mum
got the matches and Luke and I got the torches. Once every room in the house was full
of light, we noticed that the bobby shed was being blown across the paddock, the roof
had been blown off and the same with the sides.

“ What would you like to have for dinner there's eggs eggs and more eggs.” Said mum and
we all went with eggs. While we were having dinner we could hear the wind howling and it
was banging on the windows. Bang one of our stools hit the bricks outside, so dad ran
outside and moved the stools away from the window, so it won't get blown into the window!

At about 6am the power came back on. Once we had our breakfast Luke and I got on our
bikes and rode down to the cowshed, but we had to stop because a big tree had fallen
down, so we turned around and went to see how badly damaged the bobby shed was,
but it was gone. But later on we found out that Dad had took it away with the tractor,
never to be seen again.

McKenna's Amazing Holiday Work

On Friday my family and I went to Mt Ruapehu. It was late in the night so we went to this restaurant called steak and seafood we thought it sounded very nice so we went in. Fires were going and really good service we loved it. We got to chose a table it was circle shaped and seated four. Straight away a lovely man asked us if we would like drinks we said maybe a few more minutes. 1 hour later I was halfway through my dinner when I asked if I could take a photo of my dinner cause it looked yum it smelt yum and tasted yum. Luke and I were getting bored so we got mums phone and we played on snapchat when we were taking a selfie we asked the lady if she would want to come in and it showed on her that she had too much makeup on but it was just a theme. Then the lady brought that kind gentle man over and she asked us if we could put the theme on him and he thought it was very funny. sadly it was time to go but I hoped I would come back another day. we said goodbye as we walked out into the blustery night. I think that has been the best restaurant I have ever been to.

Lake Rotokare Reserve - Report by Hayley

The Overgrown Jungle

The trees were hanging over the track and they were softly tapping on my head as I scooted past. Hiding the sunlight away from the soft brown earth. It was like a overgrown jungle with only one way out .  A saddleback was in the tree, singing a sweet tune to me.

On the track there were rat traps and mice traps. Zoe's Mum set off one of the traps, she poked the lever with a stick - Bang! It made me jump! Bang! Then we moved on to the end and took in the beautiful lake views.

There was not a single ray of sunshine peeking through the leaves . “Yuck mud, oh no it's on my shoes”I said with dismay. The mud was like chocolate pudding. Slush, slush sounds came from the mud as people passed through, covering everyone's gumboots and shoes. A little bit of Lake Rotokare are for everyone to take home. I enjoyed learning about our native plants and animals ,learning about our world and how to care for it .We don't have a lot of native animals in the world, so we have to look after and treasure the ones we do have . Americarna Recount - Georgia

"That car is sick!!!" I can't wait its the Americarna!

It was time to go on the bus.  It was soooo funny on the bus because everyone was singing, they were singing juja on that beat, abcds, wheels on the bus round and round.  It felt like we were singing for ages but we weren't.

Finally we are there! First we have to walk down there, and now were there.  As soon as I looked down the road there was a flash orange car, it was mean, it had big black wheels.  Next there was a pink car, yup - a pink car it was flash as well.   All of the cars were flash they were awesome but the one thing is that it was HOT!

It is soooooo hot it, it was sooo hot I felt like tipping frozen ice over me! Thats how hot it was, I also felt so tired.

The cars were colourful there were lots of orange, red and yellow cars.

It was so funny because there was a skeleton in a car.  It had a cigarette in its mouth and there was also a dog in there.   It was so awesome at the Americarna.

On Saturday the first day of the holidays Zach and Lacie had a birthday party but we had to go to league first, they had three games Dad refed all three,at the last game Zach scored a try but Dad was a meany and didn't give it to him but we said that Zach go the try.

After two hours it was finally finished it was time for Me, Zach and Lacie to go to Mega Bounce for Zach and Lacies team mate Taylen and his brother Tyree. The whole team went apart for Bead and Remi they were both sick. Soon someone from the under nines come, Harlem first we went to the foam pit Dad came too. We built a foam fort. We moved to the hoops Dad went on the the small hill then jumped on the tramp and slam dunked it. Soon we had lunch and had a drink Mum said “we were there for about two hours” then we all went home. It was a fun day Dad even said that is was fun,he was the only one that played with us,then we hopped in the car and Dad fell asleep before you know it Lacie then Zach and I fell asleep once we left New Plymouth,I enjoyed it and it was really fun and everyone enjoyed. I felt nervous and excited. Because I was ready to do a flip and I thought the it would fail, and happy because it worked.

The Muddy Tournament
Te Rau and me got up and had breakfast the Te Rau got ready then we went to Opunake we got there. I waited to my Mum got there because she had my stuff for. Rugby then she got there so then I went and got the stuff of my Mum and went to get dressed then we played Kaponga and Blake was playing bit dirty.

We played Kaponga Blake was being a bit dirty the score was 2/1 to Kaponga it was fun  then we played southern it was a dirty game but it was a little fun the score was 1/1 we won because we got the first try. After  we played Opunake and their was be from the under 11 it was Peter Chas and someone else the score was 0/0 so we had to do paper scissors Rock.

After Opunake we played Kaponga 2 because Kaponga has 2 teams and at half time we put all of our players on we had 12 on and Kaponga 2 had 13 on it was fun and we lost 5/0 to Kaponga.

Aroha's Cow Ride Recount

The Amazing Cow Ride

In the first week of the school holidays I was invited to Ashley's house. Ashley and I were playing with her cow Ella just before milking. When we were playing we heard the motorbike pulling up It was Ashley's mum. I asked if I could ride Ella. Ashley's mum said yes!.

I jumped onto the side of the feed pad and lifted my right leg up and swung it over the cow and I jumped up onto her back. I was sitting happily on her back on her I said to Ashley “ Jump on and see if we both can be on her together.” As soon as Ashley lifted her leg up Ella moved away, Ashley fell back and landed in the mix. I was still riding when Ella was moving. Ashley's mum grabbed me off safely I said “Now it is Ashley's turn.”

Ashley jumped up and tried to get on Ella but she ran to the other feed pad. Ashley fell. I caught her. She said “Let go of me or you will fall on me.”

We walked home to get ready for milking. I said “I will do cow riding again I think that it a little bit dangerous but fun.”

This recount was written by Aroha is Room Three and details some of the awesome things that she got up to in the School Holidays.

After 10 minutes of running around the paddock trying to get him. We cornered him. I jump and grab him tight " you're not getting away this time.

Jorja's Lamb and Calf Day Recount

Calf and Lamb Day

We arrived at the gate adrenalin rushed down my spine as I was first to go in my leading, at calf and lamb day, grass ripped up everywhere as the hoofs of the calves and lambs dug into the ground.

I walked my lamb over to the start line and led it round the standard placed there in the grass, my lamb did not like the pulling as it was eager to eat grass.

Poo covered the grass and the scent of sausages and lollies covered the air, I tried not to be distracted as my lamb was next up for calling. The judge grabbed my lamb and unleashed it, my lamb Liquorice just stood there with its head held down and eating grass.

I had a great time at calf and lamb day even my lamb Liquorice did not do very well it was great to see everybody enjoying there day, especially me.

Teachers Note: The biggest day for students of Auroa Primary School is Lamb and Calf Day - students are able to bring either animal to school for show and competition.  Our students wrote recounts about this years event.  This is written by Jorja you can visit her blog by clicking on this link.

Recount Writing: Kyah Writes about Athletics

200 metre race here I come Mania , Kaponga , Matapu, St Patrick's game on. Nerves were shuffling around me like a puzzle, butterflies were fluttering around me like mad the flag is a evil red but my luck ran out it has turned to a luscious light green.

Ready, set (bang!!) running as fast as the flick of light and Usain Bolt put together, my breath was was getting stolen. My opponents follow close behind 50 metres down 150 meters to go Mania Romes behind me greedy for victory.

Running hard out I think my breath is 0% bird are going round in circles through my head. Nearly at the finish line strains of blood are pumping through my body at a uncontrollable speed. Taking a deep strong breath struggling to pump it back out my confidence levels of winning are shrinking down to 30% 2 steps away from victory 1... 2... complete.

A funny feeling swipes throw my body. Receiving my glossy red stick. my breath had gone , my victory is received, my mind is dizzy. I felt a bit funny then all of sudden streams of tears race down my face. Heat is turning everyone into bright red bulging tomatoes. I had stomach pain, gurgling water down my throat better but not good enough a strong feeling hit me saying"i need to go home".

Teachers Note: this is Kyah's recount about her attendance at the local schools Athletics Field Day held at Victoria Park, Kaponga on Thursday 5th March.

So Hard: Mackennas Triathlon Recount

3... Adrenaline was pumping through me. 2... I'm so nervous. 1... GO! Mr Tai yells. Girls were running through like a stampede of elephants. I was running as fast as my legs would take me. This was hard, maybe impossible, but sadly, I signed up for it.

"Running was pain" is all I was thinking, trying to pass all these girls kept passing me. I was in the middle of the field and I still had a while to go. This was so harsh.

"I've got to stop" I think but I've still got another lap to go. I'm worn out and just to make it worse, my legs hurt!! I was puffing hard out.

My sweat was dripping like rain. This was very mighty. But I still have a bit to go. I could see a glimpse of my destination, that glory, gold and treasure. Almost there... Done!

I was still kind of annoyed that I needs to do the bike but after I could go for the swim! Yes! I'm really excited now, I'm really going fast!
