Lake Rotokare - Mr Bloors Amazing Video

The students from Auroa Primary School (and the rest of New Zealand) are currently on a well deserved holiday break. Its the first week of the break between term two and three. Our students will be back in the classroom on Monday 24th July and we look forward to connecting with you then. This term our students had the opportunity to visit the Lake Rotokare Reserve. This is a significant conservation area in Taranaki. Mr Bloor created this amazing video of the Room 7 and Room 8 trip to this spectacular location!

The Overgrown Jungle

The trees were hanging over the track and they were softly tapping on my head as I scooted past. Hiding the sunlight away from the soft brown earth. It was like a overgrown jungle with only one way out .  A saddleback was in the tree, singing a sweet tune to me.

On the track there were rat traps and mice traps. Zoe's Mum set off one of the traps, she poked the lever with a stick - Bang! It made me jump! Bang! Then we moved on to the end and took in the beautiful lake views.

There was not a single ray of sunshine peeking through the leaves . “Yuck mud, oh no it's on my shoes”I said with dismay. The mud was like chocolate pudding. Slush, slush sounds came from the mud as people passed through, covering everyone's gumboots and shoes. A little bit of Lake Rotokare are for everyone to take home. I enjoyed learning about our native plants and animals ,learning about our world and how to care for it .We don't have a lot of native animals in the world, so we have to look after and treasure the ones we do have . Auroa Primary School Visits Lake Rotokare

This year we have a staff member, Mrs Derbyshire who is on leave for six months working as a Scientist.  She is working at the Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust.  You can read about the work that she is doing on her teacher blog which is located here. 

On Wednesday, the last week of School, we had the opportunity to send a group of students to Lake Rotokare for a day trip to look at the work that was being completed and to take part in some hands on Science learning.  Since then a number of students who were involved on that trip have produced recounts and reports about what they did.
