Who has worked together before and might be able to work together again? How will last years game play and experience shake how this years competition goes? Are there scores to settle? Its the greatest internet classroom competition game of all time - with an incredible prize on offer... this is going to be the most amazing adveture...

Taranaki Survivor 2016: He's back...

Arguably the most untrustworthy player ever to play the game... last season if there was a point when it went all downhill, where the 'Outwit... Outsmart and Outplay...' part of the game took hold... Kikorangi had two leaders who were working together to build a team based - until episode five...  just confirmed today... back for the 2016 season and a second chance at glory or a second chance at infamy... in the greatest internet classroom show of all time!

Rico instigated a removal of the other co-leader the first chance that he got.  Siobhan hadn't put a foot wrong and done everything write for her team... but for Rico it wasn't enough....

He's yet another returning player now confirmed for the 2016 season.

With an oversea's fan club (true!) he's talented and devious - truly one of the most dangerous players around. Can he improve on his 2015 effort? Which if the teams will he end up in?

There's but two days for contestants to have their application videos in before the final selection is made!

Already confirmed for the 2016 season are Natalie, Ebony, Caro, Jayden and Regan. Confirmed officially today are Rico to be joined by Aroha and Ashley. That leaves only 11 spots up for grabs for potential contestants - which means that some of last years group will  miss out... will Harry step up and come back? Will Bethany the most unlucky player from last season whose game was ended by a single vote try again? Who is still to apply

Auroa Primary School Library Tour

We're in the process of updating our 'about us' tab on this blog. We're replacing the written content with some video footage of different places around Auroa Primary School. The first of these was created by Aroha and features the School Library at Auroa Primary. Aroha planned, drafted and then wrote the script for this walk through and was also responsible for the recording, editing and finish work - what a great job!

Tarnaki Survivor Contestant Announcement: Caro/Ebony

Last year in the 2015 season of the classroom internet competition two compeditors engaged in an epic battle against each other.  During the course of twenty episodes only two players avoided elimination despite their best efforts to eliminate each other.  Online blog polls predicted that they would both be in the final and after an epic confrontation and battle that proved to be the case.

The final vote was eventually won by Harry, with Caro claiming second place.  No-one more immunity challenges than Caro but also no-one was involved in more blind sides or big moves.  Last year she came as close as possible to winning the competition without managing the cross the finish line.  This year she will be aiming to go one better.  Our second confirmed 2016 cast member: Caro.

Caro's Taranaki Survivor Audition Video from myles webb on Vimeo.

Then there's this audition tape that came in from someone else who took part in 2016.  Ebony was one of the contestants who was eliminated early, located an immunity idol and made it back into the game.  She exited for a second time just before the semi-finals.  How will she progress in 2016? Can she do better than before? Regardless of this its an amazing application video and she will be contestant number three...

Taranaki Survivor 2016: The Big Announcement

Today at assembly the format for the 2016 season of Survivor:Taranaki was announced.  The competition is coming back for 2016 but there's a twist - no longer will it be a Room Three only competition, this year the competition will run across the entire senior school.  The competition audition process is now open.

If your a returning contestant who wants a second chance or if you a new player convinced that you have what it takes - you both have the same task.

Create a short 30 to 45 second video explaining why you deserve to have a place in the 2016 competition and email it to Mr Webb.  Mr Webb, Mr Bloor and Mr Chittenden are going to select the best ones and this is how the contestants for this year will be selected.  We will be announcing the cast during the rest of the term, with the final teams and the first episode at the end of this term.
The big questions are:
Will Caro attempt to make it back for 2016? She made it all the way to the final in the 2015 competition and then chose to take Harry with her to the final.  Will she be back again to try and go better? Will Harry attempt the impossible and go back to back as a double champion?

Who will come into the competition? Who else from last years season will seek redemption? Look to settle old scores? What alliances will be reconnected? What alliances will fall apart? Will old team mates from Whero or Kikorangi will work together again?

All these questions will be answered as we repeat the never again to be repeated series of the greatest internet classroom competition of all time.

In our flash-back for the 2015 season this episode was entitled 'Knock Me Down' which was episode eight.  In this the two competing teams were joined by a third team created from the eliminated players 'The Exiles".  This episode was significant because it featured the first idol play of 2015 when Gypsy protected Mackenna and caused the elimination of Bethany.   And to make it more exciting the first idol for 2016 is in place already and the clues to its location are already in place - however why would it be in place without a competitor named? What is going on? This episode originally broadcast on this class page 29/10/2015:

Aroha's 125th Jubilee Video

Saturday saw the 125th Jubilee celebrations of Auroa School. There were speeches, official ceremonies and a parade past the school. If you missed the parade then Aroha from Room Three was there with her technology to record the event! During the parade some of the floats were throwing objects into the crowd - which included water bombs and sweets! Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Saturday 12th January 2016.

Collaborating with France

As part of 'Relating to Others' at the start of this year our students have looked at New Zealand and compared it to France. We've had some fantastic contact with CM2 From Brindas School in France. We compared New Zealand to France and asked some questions about their lives and way of living. They have produced a video of answers and some more questions. You can click on the link to it here.

Swimming 2016: Mr Bloors Official Video

Swimming Sports: Parents Vs. Pupils Vs. Staff Relay

The final event for our 2016 School Swimming Sports Competition was the Staff Vs. Pupil Vs. Students relay. A hotly contested competition between the three groups with pride and glory on the line. The students have traditionally been given a half length advantage in this race and then the adults were allowed to start following that (as you can see from the video). The race was incredibly close and the result is still in debate the following day - who finished first? Who touched the wall? Mr Bloor has filmed the finish at close quarters and while we await the definitive answer these highlights, filmed at the Stratford Swimming Pools will have to do in the meantime.

Auroa Primary Schools 125th Jubilee

This coming weekend its the 125th Jubilee of Auroa Primary School. Our students have been busy preparing for this special event which includes a parade on Saturday and a special dinner on Saturday night. On Friday we are having a ceremony at the cenotaph outside of our school where the students are going to lay a poppy. For the dinner on Saturday night our students are producing an A3 placemat for the people who are attending to have their dinner on. The parade starts at 10:30am on Saturday morning.

Open spaces at Auroa Primary School.

Yesterday we looked at 'rush hour traffic' outside Auroa Primary School and in the second part Paige decided to show off our school fields so it gives our friends an idea of how big it is and how much space that we have. You can click on the link to their class page here.   The video was put together by Paige including all editing and publishing of credits.  Filmed at Auroa Primary School, Taranaki, New Zealand on Tuesday 8th March 2016.

Rush Hour at Auroa Primary School

We recently collaborated with the students from 4A from the Australian Independent School in Jakarta, Indonesia.  While we were talking with them we discussed how big our areas around our school was.  Jakarta has around 15 million people living in it.   After we spoke both classes used Google Earth to check out their school and they looked at ours.  That got us thinking about traffic, so Paige and Kadian, supervised by Mrs Auld, went outside our classroom, outside our school by the front gates and filmed the traffic chaos outside Auroa Primary School during the middle of the day.

How to Survive A Cow Attack! Guest post by Jessie@Panmure Bridge

We're always looking for work and examples of interesting things to share and think about. Today Mr Webb found a post written by Jessie from Panmure Bridge School in Auckland. It was entitled 'How to Survive a Cow Attack' and had a series of tips and information about what to do in a cow attack. We used it as a reading exemplar and worked our why through it. Some of the questions caused discussion and sharing of experiences from our class. Some of the examples we agreed with and some we weren't sure about. We went through each of the statements from her display and Paige from our class took notes.

It was a really interesting experience for us to use our existing prior knowledge, make inference about some of the slides that Jessie had come up with and see what statements we agreed and disagreed with.

Tip Two, which is to the right we did agree with - we did a survey of who had Cows at home or next door to them and nearly everyone in the class did.   Most of the injuries that people had received were
based around the Cows being scared or not realising a person was there (being stood on during milking or being kicked in the face during teat spraying).

Tip Three really caused a great discussion in class.  We thought that in some circumstances it did apply and in others it did not.   We used inference in Tip Four to think that the information came from being online because it said 'pounds' and in New Zealand we use Kilograms to measure the weight of a calf or a cow.

MT SPA Athletics 2016

Today at Kaponga in South Taranaki the MT SPA Cluster held their annual Athletics Day. This consisted of local schools of Auroa, Kaponga, Matapu, St Patricks Kaponga and Manaia competing in a range of events. At stake was the Athletics Shield of which Auroa were the defending champions. At the midway point Manaia had a close lead from Auroa, however in one of the closest finishes in recent times Auroa were able to overtake Manaia and successfully defend the shield! Mr Chittenden was very happy.
