R3 What's A Day Like for a Student in New Zealand?
We're always collaborating with students and classrooms around the world. This explanation piece of writing written last term by Aroha from Room Three, it explains a typical day for her, at School in New Zealand.
Hi I am Aroha from Room Three, Auroa Primary School in New Zealand and I will be telling you how my day goes.
So my day starts with Mum waking me up I climb out of bed and slowly walk up the stairs and walk into the bathroom to grab my uniform then walk back to my room and get dressed. I walk up stairs and ask for a mashed egg on sourdough. While I wait I comb my hair and grab my iPad of charge and put it in my iPad bag. Mum calls me so I get up at the table and eat my egg then I go back to the bathroom again and brush and wash my face then I walk back to the kitchen and sit down and put my shoes and socks on. When we are ready we go down to the bus.
When i get to school I put my bag in the clock bay then i unzip and get my iPad out then i walk into the classroom and put my iPad on my desk and go outside and wait for the bell… DING goes the bell i go to class and sit down and wait for Mr Webb. . . Mr Webb walks in and tells the class to sit down then he talks to the class about the daily planner and sometimes news then we get let go to do maths. At 10.30 the bell goes Mr Webb lets the class go all of the class goes to the clock bay well most of the class to get food then i go outside and play handball .
Ding the bell goes me and Ashley run to class Mr Webb tells the class the class what topic we are doing for writing then we set to work. . . After a while some people finish and start drafting and some people are still planning then the bell goes at 11.45am Mr Webb lets us go to second break.
DING goes the bell everyone rush’s in and sit down on the mat then Mr Webb walks in and talks to the class about what we are suppose to do but some people muck around and not do their work. . . after an hour the bell goes for lunch we pack up reading and go to lunch.
1 hour later the bell goes DING DING DING I run to class carefully and sit down. Mr Webb comes in and talks to the class about ako after a while Mr Webb tells the class to stop what they are doing and pack up. After a couple of minutes the class is packed up and ready to go home. Mr Webb talks to the class until the bell goes DING Mr Webb lets the class to go home.
Riding the bus home it is so noisy i can’t stand it… finally I got home Mum tells us get firewood in… after a while I play on my ipad and eat tea.

Aroha's Cow Ride Recount
The Amazing Cow Ride
In the first week of the school holidays I was invited to Ashley's house. Ashley and I were playing with her cow Ella just before milking. When we were playing we heard the motorbike pulling up It was Ashley's mum. I asked if I could ride Ella. Ashley's mum said yes!.
I jumped onto the side of the feed pad and lifted my right leg up and swung it over the cow and I jumped up onto her back. I was sitting happily on her back on her I said to Ashley “ Jump on and see if we both can be on her together.” As soon as Ashley lifted her leg up Ella moved away, Ashley fell back and landed in the mix. I was still riding when Ella was moving. Ashley's mum grabbed me off safely I said “Now it is Ashley's turn.”
Ashley jumped up and tried to get on Ella but she ran to the other feed pad. Ashley fell. I caught her. She said “Let go of me or you will fall on me.”
We walked home to get ready for milking. I said “I will do cow riding again I think that it a little bit dangerous but fun.”
This recount was written by Aroha is Room Three and details some of the awesome things that she got up to in the School Holidays.

Auroa Primary School Library Tour
We're in the process of updating our 'about us' tab on this blog. We're replacing the written content with some video footage of different places around Auroa Primary School. The first of these was created by Aroha and features the School Library at Auroa Primary. Aroha planned, drafted and then wrote the script for this walk through and was also responsible for the recording, editing and finish work - what a great job!

Saturday saw the 125th Jubilee celebrations of Auroa School. There were speeches, official ceremonies and a parade past the school. If you missed the parade then Aroha from Room Three was there with her technology to record the event! During the parade some of the floats were throwing objects into the crowd - which included water bombs and sweets! Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Saturday 12th January 2016.

Q&A for our Friends in France
We had the Auroa School Triathlon - today, the first major event of 2016 for our students. That meant we had only a block this morning to complete our answer videos for our friends from Brindas School in Lyon, France. They've already created a series of videos and questions for us in New Zealand and we're answering some of their awesome questions below - you can click on this link for their original video or here for their class page.
Its our first effort in using iMovie for some of our students and we are also collaborating with another class for the first time from another country.
This video was created by Aroha and Ashley and answers the questions about what beautiful places are:
This is for Cm2 at Brindas from myles webb on Vimeo.
The girls choose three locations for their answer: Dawson Falls - which is a local attraction, Lake Taupo and a place that Aroha visited during her holidays, Tane Mahuta, the largest and oldest tree in New Zealand.
CM2 from myles webb on Vimeo.
Paige had a special challenge - she was the only one from her group that was present and needed to complete the task herself - and she did an amazing job. Her question was about how expensive it was in New Zealand and how much do things cost.
Jamesen's Questions for Brindas School, France from myles webb on Vimeo.
Jamesen and Jackson R had a tricky question related to currency - the students from Brindas School wanted to know what our currency was and also how many Euros it was worth. Our boys did an amazing job with their video.

More Question and Answers for Brindas School in France
Brindas School, France asked us - why don't the students at Auroa School in New Zealand wear shoes at School? As part of a current collaboration that we're involved in Brindas School are learning English and as part of our classroom program we've got a class of students learning French.
If there's one thing that we get asked more than anything else from schools and students overseas its that - why don't we wear shoes at school? If you look at our classroom videos and our school videos the students aren't usually wearing shoes.
To answer Brindas School, Elazae and Aroha from the Auroa Primary School French Class produced this video which helps answer this questions for our friends in France - you can visit their fantastic class page by clicking here.

Brindas School also wanted to know about our technology at school. They wanted to know about the technology that's used by our students whats available and who uses them. They also wanted to know what happens if someone didn't have an iPad what would we do. Mackenna from Room Three went around Auroa School and created this video
