Double Yolked Eggs: Ashton's Brilliant Work
We've had some students this year produce some incredibly high quality work. We have our MOA Awards coming up later in the year and we have a group of students who are regularly blogging in their own time and producing quality work.
We have a number of students who have been refining their work on iMovie this term - Ashton has been leading the way, inspiring others and you can see some sensational work such as Ashton's original Chicken Video or Caro's Dance Recital. Ashton has completed a second video about his chicken's - this one is detailing a double yolked egg. He completed the entire project in his own time and edited and gathered information himself. You can visit his wonderful student blog by clicking on the link here. This is his amazing, brilliant work.

Biggest Classroom Spider: Can You Help?
![]() |
| Ashton with the Vagrant Spider he found by the carshed |
Ashton just posted this yesterday - its an amazing post about a Spider he found on his farm, a Vagrant or Prowling Spider. Ashton's researched the spider, using Google and taken all these photos - you can read all the details on his brilliant post here.
What we wanted to ask you - what's the biggest spider that you have locally? Can you (safely of course) take a photograph of it? Can you identify what it is? We'd love to here some feedback from some of our online friends!

What information would we need to know about the Spider? Are there sites that you can link to your post with details or information about the spider?
In New Zealand we only have one poisonous spider, the Katipo which is an endangered native spider, which is extremely rare. There aren't any other poisonous animals and we don't have any snakes.
This isn't the first time that Ashton's posted brilliantly about some of the creatures around us, with help from his Mum he also located the massive Tiger Slug that was found earlier this year. If you want to read about this creature then you can click on the link to the post on his blog here or see the slideshow that was created when we passed it around for our students to experience. Jorja also has been catching Eels on her farm, read about it here.

Tiger Slug on PhotoPeach
This slideshow was created when we had a special guest in the classroom. It was a Tiger Slug that had been brought in by one of our students. It was found on their farm in the Sliverbeet. Its known as the Grey Slug, Tiger Slug and Leopard Slug. It grows to 20cm in length. This was the biggest Tiger Slug that Ashtons Mum has ever seen. Its Latin name was Limax Maximus. It one of the biggest slugs in New Zealand. It eats other slugs and plants. It was introduced into New Zealand from Europe.
