Auroa Schools Salvation Army Appeal

Will from Room One has been involved in some fantastic projects for the school and community this year.   One of the things that he organised was our involvement in the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.   This is what Will wrote about it on his blog:

Between the 25th of November and the 5th of December our school community participated in the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, were we brought a tin can (non perishable item) or gift for a child less fortunate.

A big THANK YOU to all the people who donated a gift or tin can for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. You have made a less fortunate child have a very very merry Christmas.

Auroa Primary School 1-2-3...

On Thursday 23rd of October Room One was lucky enough to have five students competing in the Y7/8 Lions Speech Competition Final at the Kaponga Town Hall.   Will, Michael, Tom, Emily and Riley P. did an exceptional job representing Auroa Primary School against students from Kaponga Primary School, St Patricks Kaponga and Matapu School.

The results for Auroa were impressive because Auroa achieved the perfect result.  The 2014 winner (and defending champion) was Tom from Room One.   Emily was placed as Runner Up and Riley P. took third place.  Tom and Emily are now moving forward to the next stage of competition finals taking place in Hawera in early November.  We wish them the very best of luck.

Wills Amazing Adventures in Fiji

Recently some of our Auora Primary School students have had some fantastic opportunities in other countries.  One of the great things about the potential for blogging is that the students can contribute or post, even if they are in a different country and continue to share their learning.  Three students from Room One have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to do so recently.

James is currently in Europe, having posted about some amazing adventures along the way.  Dayna recently was able to blog about her time in Fiji.  Will also has published an amazing series of posts about what he's been able to do.  You can see some of his images and his media by clicking on the link here.  He was also able to visit a School and be involved in a Kava Ceremony, you can watch his slideshow here.

Crowley Cup Highlights Vs. Opunake Primary

At Auroa Primary School we've got some exciting competitions coming up.  We are really excited that our Y7/8 Sport has just started and we're going to be attending the NZAIMS tournament in Tauranga, later this year.  At the moment our Y5/6 students are currently competing in the Crowley Cup.  Its a local competition against other Primary Schools from our area in Rugby and Netball.  Our first game took place last Thursday with Auroa Primary School hosting our friends from Opunake Primary.  This video of the Rugby was filmed in Imovie by our students who then edited and published it.  Will had to reshoot the introduction because the day it took place and we had strong winds which eliminated all our  Netball footage! It was not ideal conditions to film, record and present.

Player of the day for Auroa in the Rugby was Matt Clarke, Auroa who are in their purple with orange trim, won the rugby 51-0. Katelyn Hughes was player of the day for Auroa who won 11-8. You can read about it on our school website here.

Our friends at Opunake Primary School beat us to the post in this case.  They've got some great blogs up and running and we enjoyed visiting them often.  Mr Lodge and the students of Room 14 have been posting very regularly and you can view their footage of the sports exchange.

Auroa Primary School at the Auckland Nines

In Room One we've been looking at ways to display media on our student and class pages. We had two students who were lucky enough to travel to the Auckland Nines NRL competition. Will brought in photographs that he took at the event and was able to use Photopeach to create this slideshow of the event. Auckland NRL nines on PhotoPeach
