Megs APS Market Day Recount

Sold Out - Meg's Market Day 2014 Recount
My stomach churned as I stepped foot in the classroom. I eyed up the work that need to be done and felt lightheaded. I knew standing there wouldn’t help, so I pulled up my sleeves and got head in work.

Dragging those desks on to the deck and seeing everyone else setup made it feel so much more real. As we lay out our product on the desk war broke out over what goes where and what lay out looked best.

“SALE STARTS NOW” announced Mr Chittenden through his bullhorn. Suddenly a swarm of children came barreling towards us. Coin after coin, Note after note, we were quickly making quite a large profit. After twenty minutes we were sold out and exhausted!

In the end we were all so proud of the product we had put forward to the community and each other. We made around two hundred dollars. Drinking jars are a hit!!!

Recently we held our School Market Day to celebrate the end of our AKO (inquiry) for Term Two and Three, as regular followers of this blog will know. Each of the students wrote a recount about the significant event. This was authored by Meg from Room One.

Auroa Primary School: Mr Toft's Cup Challenge!

As we mentioned earlier in the week we saw a challenge from Mr Toft in Canada involving rubber bands, string and cups.  You can click on the link to the original post here.  We didn't see the video original video in Canada, it came through Mrs Monaghans A Room With a View site and she posted about it when a class in India competed the challenge.   A great idea that started in one country and now four different countries have completed it at the very least.   Thanks to Mr Toft, Mrs Mongahan for the great idea! Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Wednesday 17th September 2014.

Auroa Primary School: Educreations to Show Mathematics Strategy

In class for Mathematics we've been looking at using tools to explain strategies.  One of the tools that our students have been using is Educreations which is available as an App for Ipad.   These students have created these explanations about strategies to solve problems.  They've worked out a problem, worked on creating an explanation of the strategy and then recorded the strategy.  This is from Tahana who is explaining how to solve problems by doubling and halving. Isabelle from Room Ones Question was: How many hours are in a year? She worked out the answer using strategy and explains her answer as follows: The final example is from Meg. Meg question uses rounding to solve the problem 39 multiplied by 80.

Auroa Primary School: 30/45 Second Movies

Last week in class we had a day to create plan and put together a film about Auroa Primary School. The film had to be thirty to forty five seconds in length and featured a unique aspect of us. The inspiration for this came from Mrs Crains Global Blogging Challenge, #2014gbc. This film created by Meg from Room One and featured some of the technology that is available to students of our school.

Haiku Deck about Auroa Primary School

Today in class we looked at using 'Haiku Deck' as a way of displaying information. As part of the Global Blogging Challenge we made a connection from Austin Texas with Mrs Kriese's Classroom. They created a Haikau Deck about their home town and state of Austin, Texas - which inspired us to do the same. Most of our class were unfamiliar with Haiku Deck but we had a tight deadline, which was to plan, complete from scratch and publish a Haiku Deck about our area. These are two examples from the students of Auroa Primary School about our School and area:

This was produced by Tahana from our class:
