As part of our #Global Pals project we've been looking at studying several different countries and animals for our friends from Mrs Monaghan Class in the UK, Miss Crowther and her class in Australia and Mrs Yollis and her class in the United States. Jamesen (who is 'half' American) has been looking at the Bald Eagle. Our favourite fact and one we didn't know was that its proper name is the 'Pie Bald Eagle' which means 'white' (in old English) and its name has been shortened to 'Bald Eagle' which is why a Bald Eagle isnt bald! We are really excited to be part of this project and looking forward to can't wait for the arrival of our first visitor!

What Does R3 Know About the USA?
This week we're really excited to be helping out Mrs Ladds Class from North Carolina, USA, as they participate in an amazing feat - they are Skyping for Twenty Four Hours. Room Three will be talking to them on Friday for half an hour - we were lucky to be able to view their school website and Class Wiki, which got us thinking - what do we really know about the USA? We thought that we knew a lot but when challenged to come up with five facts each about the USA that were correct, it turned out to be harder than we thought! The slideshow with this post is a series of pictures of the Scrap Books of the students of Room Three. It also lead us to create a series of questions for Mrs Ladds Class that came out of what we read about them and what we think we know from class - some of the highlights included:
- Do have to wear hats at school (as they are compulsory at our School in New Zealand)?
- Can you bring your own lunch to School?
- Do any of your students and their families live or work on farms?
- How do you keep safe from Alligators?
- Do you wear shoes at School?
- What do you students do at break time?
- Do you know what Rugby is and does anyone play it?
- What Colour is McDonalds in America?
- What kind of wild animals do you have around where you live?
We are looking forward to speaking to Mrs Ladds class on Friday (which will be Thursday theyre time).

Auroa Primary School: World Famous in USA and Ireland.
Today in class we were talking about our learning network and some of the collaborations that we've been involved in this year. One of the fantastic example came to our attention from the Third Grade Thinkers in Michigan, USA. They researched our country and learnt all about us. This is a link to their fantastic blog. Our second feature in as many days came from our friends 'If Only the Best Birds Sang in Ireland'. We've recently been in contact with them to thank them for an amazing gift they was sent to us for St Patricks Day. Two of our students, Tahana and Will left detailed comments on the site and they responded with two fantastic posts about food and sport in their country.
Then only today we received an amazing gift in the mail - a package all the way from our friends all the way from Siberia, Russia. We've got a very special post about this coming tomorrow.
