Project Mounga - Zooniverse

One of the major projects that the students from Room Six at Auroa Primary School are involved in is the Project Mounga Project.  This is an amazing opportunity for our students and local community to be involved in a fantastic local project to eradicate pests from the local environment.  Our students are regularly using this site to help the project management with the identification of pests.   We are eventually be using this as a project of our own develops.  If you want to find out more information about this project you can click on the link here.

If you want to go directly to the identification page that is specific to the Taranaki Mounga project, to identify some of the pests that have been seen on our mountain you can go directly to that page by clicking on this link here.

Time Lapsed Science Experiment

In Room Three - we've been carrying out some creative and interesting scientific experiments. Last week we experimented with candles and water - you can see what we were doing by watching this time-lapse photography! This week we start our investigation into what was happening and looking at the scientific reason behind it.

If anyone else has completed this experiment and has created some work or posts about it please let us know we would love to get in touch with you.

R3 Skittles Experiment

In Room Three last week we were looking at the changes made with Skittles when we dissolved them in water. We looked at changing the water temperature and seeing if that had an affect on the speed of the changes we observed. We then put together iMovies of our experiments and time lapsed them.

Auroa Primary School Visits Lake Rotokare

This year we have a staff member, Mrs Derbyshire who is on leave for six months working as a Scientist.  She is working at the Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust.  You can read about the work that she is doing on her teacher blog which is located here.

On Wednesday, the last week of School, we had the opportunity to send a group of students to Lake Rotokare for a day trip to look at the work that was being completed and to take part in some hands on Science learning.  Since then a number of students who were involved on that trip have produced recounts and reports about what they did.

You can read Jorja's recount all about her trip to Lake Rotokare here.   You can also read all about it from Madaline's perspective by clicking on this link here.
