Edison Robot Challenge

I'm sitting here with straws and tape beside my group. We are beginning to build our

double trailer for our trusty robot  we were given. The first part was tough without

covering the sensor so that we could drive straight and stay safe. We thought we

were going to lose the race. Suddenly luck came we came 3rd with 30 blocks. We were all happy and had a lot of fun.

On the 13th of June we started a bot competition but we didn’t get to finish so it carried on the the next day. On Wednesday the first thing we did was the bot challenge. In my group was Caitlin and Sarah. The challenge was who could carry the most blocks.and our group came second with 80 blocks. Your whole creation had to cross the line. and the line was two meter. Some people got out because one of their blocks fell off or they did not make it over the line.

We started a robot Competition on the 14th of June 2017. We had to make a robot out of straws and masking tape. We had to make something attached to the robot to hold the blocks. We had to be in teams of three. Sarah, Zoe and I were a team. We made a trailer. The robot had to go two meters. Every robot that crossed the line had a chance of winning. You could restart it 3 times but no more than 3. Every robot that crossed the line you had to count how much of blocks they could carry across the finish line. The one that crossed the finish line with the most blocks won. If even one of you blocks fell off you would be eliminated.

Robotics at Auroa Primary School

On Friday at Assembly a group of students from Auroa Primary School were able to put on a special performance.  A group of students have been preparing for the regional robotics competition for 2016 and while that didn't go ahead unfortunately we still had a competition at Auroa School.   Each of the groups performed in front of the School Assembly.  We had a couple of students who were present who filmed the event and today Jackson R. spent a few minutes putting together these videos of each of the groups.  Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Friday 20th August.

The time is drawing near for the Robotics Competition at Auroa Primary School. Later this week the teams will do battle in the performance section of Robotic Dance, and R3 will be represented by Mccallum, Jamesen and Jake. These exclusive photos are of the groups working on their final routines - we can't show you any video just yet! However the teams are looking forward to having an opportunity to go to the nationals.

Its three weeks until the Junior Robocup in Whanganui.   Today the students of Auroa Primary School who are in the Robotics Program had a full day of Robotics programming and work with Mrs Knapman.  Auroa Primary School have a number of teams who will be competing in this event.

Robotics: 2015 Sumo Challenge Highlights

Room Three has six students who are featuring as part of the Auroa Primary School Robotics Program. The students in this program meet every Tuesday from 2pm to 5pm. The students are preparing for a competition against three other local schools as part of the MOA Kluster - Matapu, Kaponga and Opunake. Two of the students from the program, Zariah and page decided to show our audience what's going on. They recorded this footage and today in class produced an iMovie showing whats happening. This slideshow also includes footage of the sumo bots in action - you can see two of the robots battling at just past the one minute mark. Fantastic work from two of our wonderful students. Robotics 2015

Robotics Club at Auroa Primary School takes place every Tuesday from 2pm-5pm. The students who are part of this club are looking forward to taking part in the Sumo Challenge against students from Matapu Primary School, Kaponga Primary School and Opunake Primary School. When they meet the Lego Robots created by the students will compete against each other in an attempt to push the others out of the Sumo Ring! We also have two teams who were the winners and the runners up from the Whanganui Robotics Regional Competition competing in the nationals in September.

Recounts about Regional Robotics Competition

This past Saturday Auroa Primary School had five teams competing in the Junior Robocup. This competition is the regional competition for the Junior Robocup of which Auroa is the defending New Zealand and Australian Robotics Champions. Auroa were able to continue their dominance at regional level and now look forward to travelling to the Nationals in September in Christchurch. As always we would like to show the performances however some of the aspects of the performances are best kept for the nationals. In the meantime these recounts were written about the event:

Mackenna: "On Saturday the 28th of June it was the Junior Robocup regionals. There was 6 teams in theatre and 21 teams in rescue. We had to get there by 8:00 AM. Which was quite early. Then we had a start at 10:00 AM. Once we had finished, we had waited about 10 minutes. Then it was prize giving. They said thanks for coming, and then they started. In 3rd place was the Robros. Then in 2nd place it was the Udder-Budders. Then in 1st, it was the JKLMinaters. After they finished of the rescue. For me it was a scary experience because we hadn't quite finished our program, and I was nervous about the interview, but both turned out quite fine because the interview went great and we also got 3rd!"

On Saturday the 5 Robotics teams( 3v4,JKLMinaters,JAD,Robros and Udderbutters traveled to Whaganui for the New Zealand National Robo Cup competition which was held at Whanganui Intermediate.

They got us sent to a room where they could set up and play their robots and wait for their interview.

First up was 3v4 they were doing Olympics their runner crashed the swimming went not as planned and the diver didn’t do what it was supposed to  but then they redone but it did the same thing . Next JKLMinaters theirs went perfect apart from when it reversed and crashed into the shed.

The third group was JAD theirs didn't go so good the car didn't go like they thought it would and the train didn't go straight. Robros were fourth Shrek didn't go right he crashed into a shed and he tried to go back into the out house and he flipped.

Last was udder butters their went good but the head fell off and that was almost perfect.

Bye the end robros got third udder butters got second  and JKLMinaters got first.

Technology at Auroa Primary School.

At Auroa Primary School Y7/8 students have the opportunity to participate in DPE - Design Production Education (in some Schools this is known as Technology). Students have four different learning cycles that they can participate in Robotics, E Textiles, Woodwork and 3D Printing. You can learn more about the program here. Breaking News: Auroa Primary School Win 2014 Robocup

Today we have extremely exciting news. We've had three teams this week involved in national competitions. Our NZAIMS teams in Basketball and Golf have been well documented here. The third team was the team of Tom, Michael, James and Lucas who went to Dunedin to compete in the 2014 Robotics competition in musical theatre. This afternoon the Auroa Primary School team was declared winners of the competition! We will be updating this important development early next week when the victorious team returns to school as national champions. Auroa Primary School Robotics - One Week to Go!

This is the second to last week of the school robotics program, with the competition approaching fast.  Next week on Thursday 26th of June the Hall will be open for a display for parents who are interested in seeing what the students have been up to.  Only two days later on Saturday 28th June is the date for the Robocup Regionals for the Whanganui region, hosted by Wanganui Intermediate.  These images were taken by Alex from Room One.

Robocup Wanganui: Judgement Day

Tomorrow we have a crucial day for those students who are looking to represent Auroa Primary School at the Robocup for Robotics. The students have an internal evaluation day where they need to demonstrate their progress towards the regional competition taking place at Wanganui Intermediate later in the term. They will need to impress during an assesment showing what our students have been working so hard towards. We can't show you everything from our students work - some of the concepts and material is highly sensitive at the moment, as we are entering the performance dance portion of the competition. However we are recording tomorrow and these are some of the stills from our latest day of preparation.

Our students are busy preparing for the 2014 Robocup Competitions, with our regionals now several weeks away.  As part of our preparation the students of Auroa Primary School are very fortunate to have the support of our fabulous PTA group.   We have purchased ten new EV3 Robots for competition which are more advanced than our previous NXT versions.   The video below was created by Heavenlee and Lucille and consists of a brief interview with Mrs Knapman who runs our school robotics program.  We've more details and information to come as we move towards this event.  Filmed, produced and published by Heavenlee and Lucille on Wednesday 14th May 2014.
