A special nomination for Room One: Edublogs 2014

Yesterday Room One was humbled to receive notification that we had been nominated by our friends from 6RC in Sydney, Australia for the 2014 Edublogs Awards. 

This is a very special nomination because these are global awards for blogging and educational work featuring the best class pages from all around the world.

 Our next step with the process is to await the shortlisting of the finalists, which is occurring on November 24th.

Claudias Choose Your Own Adventure.

There's some awesome work that been appearing on students and class blogs around the world and we are always very happy and keen to share it.   At the end of last week Claudia from 6RC in Sydney. Left an awesome comment on Wills blog here in Taranaki.   That led us to discover their fantastic writing and have a look at this great post from Claudia.

Auroa Primary School - Comments

This week is the last week of term one for 2014.  Students have been busy completing work before the end of term.   As part of the commenting for this week you need to ensure one task is completed from last week and complete two new commenting tasks.   The first task is to ensure that your Haiku Deck is completed about Sydney.   When this is done you need to go to 6RC and ensure that you have left a comment telling them about your Haiku Deck.  Remember that the task is under the heading of our unit for term, 'Relating to Others' and that the goal was to research facts about Sydney and have them checked as correct by someone who lives there.   If you've had a comment about your Haiku Deck identifying something that needs to be corrected then ensure that you have done this before you tell 6RC!

Auroa Primary School Our Best Comments

We've just past the 14,000 page view mark which we are really pleased to do given that our page has been running for eight weeks.   We've been looking at our data over the past eight weeks and seeing who has been the best comments source in New Zealand and overseas.  The best New Zealand source of comments has been Selwyn House, 8C our friends from Christchurch.  Their fantastic site is located here.

The second site is the one that's left the most comments from overseas on our page.  We've been lucky to have plenty of comments from different classrooms and different students but one of our collaborations has produced more fantastic comments than anywhere else - thats come from 6RC in Autstralia.  Both these sites are fantastic examples.

Auroa Primary School Connecting with Opunake and Australia

This week in class we're going to be connecting with two schools in quite different locations.

Firstly on  Friday afternoon we held our first ever Mystery Skype Call for Room One.  We had assembly but Meg and Aylssa did a fantastic job and it turned out we were talking to our new friends from Mrs T. and 6RC.  They're based in Sydney, Australia.  After our chat we received comments from most of the class so we were thrilled to make the connection.  Their fantastic blog is linked here.

Secondly we were very excited on Friday to find there are some other local schools that are also blogging and producing wonderful work.   Our friends at Opunake Primary School are blogging online throughout their school.  We're particularly liking the work from Room One (Y7/8 class), Room 14 and  Room 15 you can click on all the wonderful blogs here.
