Mr Kriese Classroom all the way from Texas!

Recently we have had some amazing comments and connections with Mrs Kriese and her class from Texas, United States of America! We've loved hearing from her and her students who have left a whole lot of questions and feedback to us on our blog, mainly about our Lamb and Calf Day and what we eat for lunch! Collaboration with Mrs Kriese's Class in Texas

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to have an experience and be able to collaborate with Mrs Kriese and her students in Texas.   

Like ourselves they have a main class blog and they have individual student blogs that are listed off the main site.  They've been visiting us again for the 2015/6 School year, leaving comments and being a fantastic audience for us.  If you would like to visit their wonderful site then you can click on the link here.

What do we know about Texas? For Mrs Kriese

This morning in class we had a look at our Feedjit tracker and were very excited to see lots of visitors from Texas in the USA. We're looking forward to collaborating with Mrs. Kriese's 7th ELA Students before their School year finishes at the end of the month.  That led us into a discussion about Texas and what we know about it.

We knew the following facts as 100% Correct about Texas:

• Its Hot
• All people from Texas as Howdy and Y'all when they meet
• People in Texas eat Hot Chilli
• Miley Cyrus is the most famous person from Texas
• Sandy off Sponge Bob is from Texas
• In Texas they have Rodeos and people ride Bulls.
• They have Cows with horns that are Beef Cows
• People wear Cowboy Hats

We thought that...

• Half of our class thought that New Zealand had a bigger population that Texas (it doesn't New Zealand has 4 Million Texas has 27 million
• One third of the class thought that New Zealand was bigger as a country in terms of area (its not Texas is two and a half times bigger than New Zealand).
• We think the first Space Shuttle was either launched or landed in Texas.

Auroa Primary School Collaborating Worldwide

We've been very excited by the collaboration that we've been developing with Mrs Kriese's Class from Austin Texas. This has come as part of our involvement in the Global Blogging Challenge which was from Mrs Crain in the USA.

 This term we are looking at 'Relating to Others' and its been fantastic to receive feedback and network with students from other countries. Our students have only recently started their individual pages but already three have past the 1,000 page views mark.

One of the best parts of the collaboration has been for our students from rural New Zealand to expand their knowledge as digital global citizens.  Prior to our collaboration with Mrs Kriese class our knowledge about Texas was very limited.  Some of our students even thought that New Zealand (as a country) was bigger than Texas (as a state) in terms of population and size, we now know that this is not the case!   This coming week we're going to be completing our investigation into Texas, continue to participate in the Global Blogging Challenge and look forward to continue our networking.
