Today at Kaponga School, Auroa Primary School claimed a famous double. Auroa had two teams in the Y5/6 competition, both managed to qualify for the semi-finals, then had to play off against each other. Rico, Danielle and Riley's team was able to progress through to the final against Opunake Primary School, where they were able to triumph with Caleb scoring a hat-trick.
In the Y7/8 Competition, Auroa again fielded two teams, looking to win a competition that we had not won for fifteen years. Tom and Michaels team found the going tough but represented the team well, including a legendary goal from Tom against Kaponga, scored from half way.
The real story of the competition came from the other team featuring Keifer, Isabelle, Heavenlee, Logan, Lucas and Captained by Harley (and others). Pool play saw them defeat Kaponga B 3-0, draw with Matapu School 0-0. In the final pool game the team played against a strong Rahotu team and lost 0-1. This meant that qualification for the semi-finals could only occur if other results went Auroa's way.
This duly occurred leaving Auroa to take on top qualifiers, Kaponga 'A' in the semi-finals. A game that was drawn 0-0 at full time, with numerous chances went to sudden death extra time. Lucas floated an amazing cross into Logan who drilled the ball first time in the roof of the net. This meant Auroa were in the final, and had to play against the Rahotu team they'd lost to in pool play. Logan again proved the difference, striking from just past half way early in the first half. The strike proved crucial because despite numerous chances from both teams, including the opportunity for a brace for Logan, the final score remained 1-0, with Auroa claiming the win for the first time since 1999.

The senior school (Rooms 4,3,2 and 1) all had their classes working as businesses selling products that were repurposed. This slideshow shot by Harley during the day is of some of the items and students that were for sale on the day.

Friday Electives: Kiddie Karts
One of the Auroa Primary School Electives that students are available to take on Fridays is Kiddie Karts. Students have an amazing opportunity to work with horses in a track situation. Perhaps the best explanation of this is an example of work from Mackennas Blog from Room Four. She created this amazing video with footage from Fridays Elective. However it has relevance to Room One as not only is Mackenna featured, but so is Harley from Room One, who is on the right. Movie created by MacKenna on Friday 13th June 2014.

#2014gbc 1-2-3 Home!
This video is another video from our students for the #2014gbc. As part of the learning behind this our students had to create, design and plan a fim, 30 to 45 seconds in length, that could be used to teach others something. Lucas, Tom and Harley choose '3-2-1 Home' which is a game they have played. This was filmed at Auroa Primary School on Wednesday 19th March 2014.

#2014gbc Task: About Auroa/Taranaki
As part of our 'About Auroa School (and Taranaki) for the 2014 Global Blogging Challenge our students constructed Haiku Decks about our School, local community and our region. We were inspired by Mrs Kriese Classroom and their Haiku Deck about Austin, Texas. You can click on that link here.
This Haiku Deck was created by Fletcher, Riley and Thomas from Room One.
