Alyssa and Michael's iPad Tilter: 3D Printer Design

We're very excited that this week in class we've had our two new Ultimaker 2 Printers working nearly full speed so our students can complete their 3D design projects.   Today in class we had a special project worked on by a group of students.    Alyssa and her brother Michael have worked on a 3D Print design for a tilter that will allow Alyssa to use the iPad with more ease.  Currently she finds it difficult to tilt the iPad and needs assistance.  Michaels and her design addresses this as it allows her to use it with more freedom and independence.   Filmed and created by Michael and Alyssa from Room One, Auroa Primary School, Taranaki, New Zealand.

We're going to discuss the video tomorrow thinking about things like, should we show the making process, can Alyssa demonstrate how it works and have her speaking about it.

Alyssa's Famous Comment

Alyssa from our class was extremely. extremely pleased to receive this comment from Andy Griffiths, a popular children's Author based in Australia.  Its fair to say its our most famous comment, ever.

I was excited to read the comment above this morning, I couldn't wait to show Ms Kinaston who is my support teacher and also the school librarian. We looked on his website through the library blog link. I have read The 26-storeyTreehouse and The Very Bad Book. He is a very popular author at our school. I have learned from his website that he wrote his first book in year 8 and it was called 'lost in time', he was also in a punk rock band when he left high school. Andy has advice for young writers "Practice as much as you can. It's been calculated that to become really skilled at an activity you have to practice for around 10,000 hours, so the sooner you get started the better. And read as much as you can!"

Introduction to Auroa Primary School

Auroa School is located in the North Island in South Taranaki, New Zealand. Mount Taranaki is directly north of Auroa. We also have the Pacific Ocean directly South of us. Mount Taranaki is 2518m high. It is an active stratovolcano, which means it is shaped like a cone because of the eruptions in the past. It is one of the most symmetrical volcanoes in the world.

A long time ago a man called Auroa came to the Whanganui River area and met a girl called Hinengakau. They had twins called Hgati Haua Piko and Ngati Haua Roa. Ngati Haua Piko was given land from the mountain to the sea, and was named Auroa in remembrance of the ancestors Auroa. When the school opened in 1891 many decendants of Auroa from the hapu of Ngati Haua Piko attended this school.

The Auroa community is mostly made up of dairy farmers and their families. Auroa is a country school and has 186 students. We have students from Year 1 through to Year 8. Most children go on the bus to school. I come to school in a taxi because I have a disability. We are lucky to have a huge school. We have a senior and junior playground and a new swing area. Our field has a cricket pitch and plenty of room for rugby and soccer. We have a tennis court area where we play basketball, netball and tennis. We have a community swimming pool and hall that we use for concerts. We also have a dell area which we can play in. It is a nice place where we can talk to our friends. There is also a stage where we can perform plays. We have lots of fun days - like athletic sports, swimming sports, trolley derby, triathlon, sausage sizzle, dress up days and many more. We have an amazing library where we can hang out to read books!
