Questions and Answers for Mr Kemp in Singapore.

Mr Kemp, our friend and a fantastic educator from Singapore has been asking for help with a global collaboration project that he has started. He set a series of questions and is seeking answers from all around the world. The details of the project are located here on his blog. The questions that Mr Kemp and his students were looking to get answered were:

Auroa School Answers Mr Kemps Questions for Singapore from Myles Webb on Vimeo.

  • What grade are you in?
  • How many children are in your school?
  • What do you wear to school?
  • How many people are in your families?
  • What do you do when you get home from School?
  • Who does the cooking in your family? What do they like to cook?
  • Who does the cleaning in your family?
  • What do you do at the weekends?
  • What type of house do you live in?
  • Whats an important celebration you do with your family?
We decided the best way to answer these questions was to create a video of our answers.  We tried to include a local landmark - Mount Taranaki which is the volcano that dominates our area.   We had to re-shoot one video in class later because we had issues outside with the wind.

Poetry from Teague #clrpoem

This is Teague's Poetry for the #clrpoem idea that was created by Catherine Monagham from A Room with a View. Teague from Room Three completed this amazing poem with a theme of 'Red' during the School holidays.

Teague did an amazing job to do this, and feature a significant local (New Plymouth) landmark, the wind wand.

If you would like to learn more about this amazing international collaboration between the people involved then look at 'A Room with a View' or read this post all about the different coloured topics that will be coming up on 'Mrs Yollis Classroom Blog'

Biggest Classroom Spider: Can You Help?

Ashton with the Vagrant Spider he found by the carshed
Its the final days of the holidays today - Mr Webb's been thrilled during the break with all of the students who have been able to create some amazing posts during the holidays.

Ashton just posted this yesterday - its an amazing post about a Spider he found on his farm, a Vagrant or Prowling Spider.   Ashton's researched the spider, using Google and taken all these photos - you can read all the details on his brilliant post here.

What we wanted to ask you - what's the biggest spider that you have locally? Can you (safely of course) take a photograph of it? Can you identify what it is? We'd love to here some feedback from some of our online friends!

The Vagrant Spider with a pen so you can see the size.

What information would we need to know about the Spider? Are there sites that you can link to your post with details or information about the spider?

In New Zealand we only have one poisonous spider, the Katipo which is an endangered native spider, which is extremely rare.  There aren't any other poisonous animals and we don't have any snakes.

This isn't the first time that Ashton's posted brilliantly about some of the creatures around us, with help from his Mum he also located the massive Tiger Slug that was found earlier this year.  If you want to read about this creature then you can click on the link to the post on his blog here or see the slideshow that was created when we passed it around for our students to experience.  Jorja also has been catching Eels on her farm, read about it here.

Auroa Primary School - Tour of the School Dell

During Term One students focussed on a piece of explanation writing that dealt with a aspect of the school. One of the areas of Auroa Primary School that our students enjoy is the Dell. The Dell can best be explained by our students. Charlotte wrote (as a piece of writing initially) then created this iMovie with the narration which describes the area and included pictures that she took.

A Great Holiday Project for New Zealand Students...

It might be the School Holidays at the moment but there's always an opportunity to learn. At the moment nearly half of the students from Room Three have posted during the holidays which is wonderful.

One of our friends, Mrs Yollis, has a new Poetry Project which the details of which are on her wonderful class page. The original idea and the start of the project came from another of our online friends, Mrs Monaghan from A Room with View You can read the details here.

Currently the project is 'red' however during the coming weeks all the colours of the visible spectrum are going to be covered.  'Red' is just the current theme, as it is suggested you could create a whole range of poetry based activities.

There are lots of suggestions of possible activities that you carry out.   You could create a couplet, triplet or a haiku.   You could save that into your technology and then you can either publish it onto your blog or bring it into School on Monday.

Have a think about how you could present it, what it might look like.  There is going to be a special prize for this for any students from Room Three who can complete the task during our School holidays and secondly we'll have a significant prize for the best effort.

We'd also like to thank all of University students from Southern Alabama who have been leaving comments on the blogs of the students from Room Three, Auroa Primary School.  We really appreciate the EDM310 feedback for our students and #comments4kids

A Special Visitor from the United Kingdom...

Today, it might be the holidays here in New Zealand, but we received a special visitor to Auroa Primary School - a 'Flat Stanley' which was sent to us by our friends from Classroom 7,8 and 9 from Hopwood CP School in Heywood, United Kingdom.  You can click on the link to their class blog here!   We will be collaborating with them when we come back to school this coming week.

Mr Webb took some photographs with Piri the Pukekohe, the Auroa School mascot.   We also tried to take some photographs with Mount Taranaki in the background, the major local landmark, however the clouds didn't co-operate, although we will address this once school is back next week.  We've got a list of questions that we are going to work through as we complete collaboration in the classroom.  You can click on the link here in the meantime.

Auroa Primary School: Tour of the School Hall

One of the major projects that is taking place at Auroa Primary School at the moment  is the rebuild of the School Hall.   Our hall is being completely rebuilt and should be back in action later in the year.  In the meantime one of our students thought that in meantime it would be a great idea to create a video of the hall before the re-build.  It was created by Aroha from Room Three, she also edited it and put it together as an iMovie.  Thank you for your visit and a reminder that we are going to be back in class for our regular classroom program from Monday 20th April 2015.

Today we had a large number of students competing in the Weetbix Tryathalon in New Plymouth - this is a huge event, one of the biggest single sporting events in our area this year.   Students who competed didn't make it to school, but that didn't stop two students from Room Three posting as soon as they got home.  If you'd like to read all about the 2015 Weetbix Tryathalon you can visit Caro's wonderful blog with her awesome posts here.  You can also read and see about her recent trip to Wellington to compete in the Colour Run.
