MT SPA Soccer

Thursday saw Auroa Primary School travel to Kaponga Primary School for the 2015 MT SPA Cluster Soccer Tournament.  Auroa Primary School had 8 teams in total competing, two at each of the combined levels for the tournament.

The Y1-2 and Y3-4 teams were runners up in their respective competitions.   The Y7/8 teams from Auroa competed against each other in the finals winning the tournament for the second consecutive year, after the first win in thirteen years last year.

The Y5/6 teams were split into the Victory and the Roar, which featured a number of students from Room Three.  The Victory went through pool play undefeated taking out the Manaia Carvers 2-1, beating Kaponga Primary School 5-0 before winning their final game against Opunake Primary School 1-0.   The Roar also went through into the final undefeated - they beat the Manaia Shooters 4-1 and then the Kaponga Breakers 4-2.  They then had to take on the other two top teams from the pool, the Matapu Meerkats, which resulted in a 1-1 draw, and Opunake Y5/6 second team.  The Opunake team featured two familiar faces - previous Room Three students Kyah and Tyson!  The game also entered in a draw with Tyson stopping a certain goal on full time.  This qualified the two Auroa teams for the final against each other.

The Victory proved true to their name, winning the final 4-1.  It was a tight game with the score at half time being 2-1 to the Victory.  The game also featured the goal of the tournament - Quade took a throw in, bounced the ball off a player from the other team (actually his brother) and then kicked the rebound to score from half way!

Recount Writing: Kyah Writes about Athletics

200 metre race here I come Mania , Kaponga , Matapu, St Patrick's game on. Nerves were shuffling around me like a puzzle, butterflies were fluttering around me like mad the flag is a evil red but my luck ran out it has turned to a luscious light green.

Ready, set (bang!!) running as fast as the flick of light and Usain Bolt put together, my breath was was getting stolen. My opponents follow close behind 50 metres down 150 meters to go Mania Romes behind me greedy for victory.

Running hard out I think my breath is 0% bird are going round in circles through my head. Nearly at the finish line strains of blood are pumping through my body at a uncontrollable speed. Taking a deep strong breath struggling to pump it back out my confidence levels of winning are shrinking down to 30% 2 steps away from victory 1... 2... complete.

A funny feeling swipes throw my body. Receiving my glossy red stick. my breath had gone , my victory is received, my mind is dizzy. I felt a bit funny then all of sudden streams of tears race down my face. Heat is turning everyone into bright red bulging tomatoes. I had stomach pain, gurgling water down my throat better but not good enough a strong feeling hit me saying"i need to go home".

Teachers Note: this is Kyah's recount about her attendance at the local schools Athletics Field Day held at Victoria Park, Kaponga on Thursday 5th March.

Kyah's Triathlon Recount

WALT: We are learning to write a recount about the School Triathlon.

Taking a glimpse to my left, a line of nervous statues stand on the starting line, ready to go.

My heart was pounding, full pressure.   My nerves were uncontrollable, butterflies race inside of me, then I heard a bang! go! Tension gathered in my body Auroa School Intermediate Triathlon had come to a speedy start.   Running at high speed my opponents follow near behind but I am in the lead.  A flag stands at the last corner of the 750m run.  Bethany roams behind me greedy for victory.  I was bulleting  towards but just was not enough Bethany passed. "there is still the bike and swim my luck hasn't faded just yet I thought".

Zooming down from the run I was exhausted and speechless.  Mum stood at my bike smiling, I hurry up buckling my helmet and off and away I went "4k bike here I come" stepping and pushing my pedals as fast as possible my enemy is up ahead.  Speaking to myself come on you can do this turn your second into first.

She is a metre ahead, racing my pedals as fast as a lightning bolt.   I have achieved my goal by passing but I can not go getting my hopes up now there is still the pressuring swim.

"Splash" I am ready to start my long distance 50 metre swim there and back.   Stroking a stroke my breath was low still pushing myself as hard as possible.  "I can do this whispering to myself.

My breath has come but I am out of the sparkling, gleaming clear water and now Bethany takes a shot in the pool.

At the end of the day I was proud of my lead but I wasn't the only  person that worked hard.
