Kaya and Dylan B's Amazing Writing

Kaya and Dylan B from Mrs Yollis Class Writing

This week we've been looking at narrative writing from a pair of students from Mrs Yollis class in the United States of America.  It features a dog called Buck, who is Mrs Yollis dog! We started by looking at their writing, sharing it and then completing the task of finishing the story! Not only that but when we finished our version of the story we shared it back to Mrs Yollis and she commented on our students work.

When Mrs Yollis was commenting 'live' on our students work we were amazed because we realised that we were a day ahead of the United States of America and while it was Wednesday midday here in New Zealand it was Tuesday afternoon at the same time in the USA.

It was a great example for our students to read a narrative from other students from another part of the world.  We haven't finished yet.  We are creating a wall display featuring Mrs Yollis and her students work to put on display and help us improve our writing.  Thank you Kaya, Dylan B, Mrs Yollis and all the students in your amazing classroom.  You can click on the link to the blog here.

In Room Three - we've been carrying out some creative and interesting scientific experiments. Last week we experimented with candles and water - you can see what we were doing by watching this time-lapse photography! This week we start our investigation into what was happening and looking at the scientific reason behind it.

Maths Questions for Mr Smiths Class in Australia

Once a week one of our Mathematics Group engages in problem solving on a regular basis. While this isn't particularly unique as lots of classrooms do this we have something a bit different - our 'Rectangles' have input and problem solving with Mr Smiths' Y5/6 Class from Queensland, Australia. That means the distance between the classes is over 3500km! This week we looked at creating Mathematical problems based around our farming. All these questions that we posed are real problems based around the farming in our area.

Brock talks about Dog Agility!

Hi my name is Brock. I do Agility, And Flygility, with my dogs Allie, And Tip. Allie Is a Labrador cross,  Tip Is a Border collie.

Agility Is kind of like a sport, But for dogs!

What Is Agility??? Agility Is series of jumps, turns, tunnels, A frames, weaves, and dog walks, Its

Not always about the time sometimes It can be on how many faults your dog made! What Is a fault??? A fault is when your dog knocks one of the jumps down, Or Muddle up the order of the weaves,

Sometimes If your dog does not behave you get no time or placing. Just Two Weeks ago I went to my very first competition I entered my dog Allie, And My Mums Friend let me use her dog Grace! I was really happy when i found out that me and Grace had come first! But Allie didnt win because she got last for doing a BIG poo In The middle of the course!

R3 Postcards from the UK

Sophie with a Room Seven Postcard - 'touching' the top of the Mountain!
Today in class we had a special delivery - a pair of postcards that had come all the way to us from the United Kingdom.  They were sent to us by our friends from Room Seven, Hopwood School in the UK.  They have be learning about volcanoes for their unit of study and as a lot of you who regularly follow our blog know, we have a volcano that dominates the local landscape - Mount Taranaki!  We were very excited to receive something from the other side of the world - these photos are taken with our own local volcano in the background!
Georgia, Kade, Ellazae, Hayley, Paimarire, McKenna and Sarah with a Room Seven Postcard - Mt Taranaki is between the trees in the background.

The Gingerbread Mission: Part Two

The Gingerbread Mission - Part Two.
Their gingerbread house came to life and turned into a monster.   Nolan said “this was not in the recipe”.  “I kinda used come to life food in it as the secret ingredient” said Elie.  Nolan sighed “look” said Elie “its getting away”.   Nolan and Elie ran after it “it’s heading into the baking competition!”  They saw it eating all the food and getting bigger “that thing has lots of teeth said Nolan.   “This gives me an idea” said Elie “let’s eat it” and so they gobbled the monster up “well we may not win but we did have a good snack” said Nolan “what are you talking about” said the judge “you kicked the monsters butt” “you totally win the prize.  “Hooray” said Nolan and Elie

By Ryan Room Three.

Mrs Yollis and her class of students in the USA have been creating some amazing examples of narrative writing. This inspired our students in New Zealand to come up with an ending to their work this is Ryan example.
