MOA Awards: Grand Final Winner

This morning in class we had a special guest from within our own School, Kaiah from Room One.  Kaiah from our school was nominated more than any other student in the MOA Kluster for her work.  She worked on the 'Bum Race 2' a stop animation movie with her brother, Durann, and this was judged the supreme winner at the 2015 MOA Awards.  Kaiah took time this morning to talk about the project, how she made it (it took two and a half days to film!) how many pictures she took (thousands!)  You can see her amazing work here:

Edu Amazing Race Demo

Two fantastic online teachers, Mr Will Chamberlain and Mr Craig Kemp have created an 'Edu Amazing Race' site and were looking for ideas. We thought that this was a great idea at school and we entrusted Kaiah and Brylee from Room One to take care of the details. They came up with a format, we didn't identify where we were in our video so their were some clues: the biggest geographic feature in our area, which is a Mountain (Mount Taranaki) which you can see clearly in the background of our video. A clue about rugby and also we are a country based school (we also thought that our accents would be a clue when we did the video and looked back at it afterwards). Because their idea is based on the amazing race we wanted to have a challenge that could easily be replicated by people watching the video so we came up with kicking a rugby ball from one end of the field to the other in under 2 minutes. The ball has to be caught on the full by the person that is catching and then the second person can run around and repeat the process. We weren't sure how hard this would be if someone didn't know how to catch a rugby ball, so we had to guess about the timing. This video was created, edited and produced by Kaiah and Brylee from Room One on Tuesday 28th October 2014.

Auroa Primary School: Mr Toft's Cup Challenge!

As we mentioned earlier in the week we saw a challenge from Mr Toft in Canada involving rubber bands, string and cups.  You can click on the link to the original post here.  We didn't see the video original video in Canada, it came through Mrs Monaghans A Room With a View site and she posted about it when a class in India competed the challenge.   A great idea that started in one country and now four different countries have completed it at the very least.   Thanks to Mr Toft, Mrs Mongahan for the great idea! Filmed at Auroa Primary School on Wednesday 17th September 2014.

Auroa Primary School Vs. Oakura

On Friday 22nd August the second to last round of Taranaki Trophy (Y7/8 Sports) Competition took place at Auroa Primary School.   Auroa hosted Oakura in Netball, Football and Rugby.   Football was a tight game, with scores being tied at 1-1 at half time before Auroa were able to take a win 3-1.

In the rugby Auroa were looking for another strong performance prior to the arrival of St Josephs Stratford on Monday, their final home game.   These highlights, filmed by Kaiah, are of that game.  Oakura are in the red and black and Auroa are in the dark blue with orange.   The game ended up being 85-0 to Auroa Primary School

The other action of the day centred around the Netball.  In it, Auroa were looking for another win to continue their good run of form in the competition, as to date their only defeat had been against St Josephs Hawera in the second round.    Auroa are in the Dark Blue with Orange and Oakura are in the red and black.   The game swung Auroas way early and Auroa were able to claim a convincing 37-5 victory.

Auroa Primary School Recounts about Swimming

This week for writing our students have been focussing on completing reports about the event that took place on Monday, our 2014 Auroa School Swimming Sports from Stratford.

Students have spent the week working on a piece of writing about the event.  They planned, edited, reworked and finally published their writing.

We also focussed this week on writing an introduction or a hook that got the attention of the audience.  This came in two ways.  The first as you can see from our student blogs on the right hand side was the fact that we have 30 individual blogs.

We posed the questions to students - what is a title that they could include for their blog that would gain peoples attention.

Some of the students work you can view from the students of Room One about the invent include:
Which of these titles to you think are the most effective? Which titles make you want to click on the link to the students work? Which of these are an effective 'hook?'
