We've had some students involved every week in music lessons during the school year. Last Sunday the students held a musical recital in the Auroa Community Hall for the local community. One of the performances from the show was 'Que Sera'. This is another video put together by James from Room One.

Tom and James: Snowsliding
While we're currently in the start of Summer in New Zealand, and we're approaching the end of the 2014 School Year. (In New Zealand the school year starts in February and Ends in December).
During the year we had a number of students use blogging as a way of producing material for online as part of school keys program. James has been up to so much this year, and he's made a whole lot of his exciting experiences available for people to watch. This is him and Tom from Room One sliding down the slopes of Mount Taranaki, Taranaki, New Zealand.

Mountain Biking: Go Pro - James
Students are completing their digital credits for their Keys Program, which is the School Keys program for students to work in their own time towards being placed on the School Honours Board. The Digi Key is the last in the set of five and as part of school program, and is to be awarded during school prize giving. James from Room One has created some amazing media as part of his key. This is only one such example of the work he's been up to - James has created a huge amount of media on his student blog this year. James has passion for action adventure, this video which he's created is an example of how he spends some of his spare time - mountain biking. James has filmed, edited and presented this work completely on his own.

Australian Junior Robocup 2014
Do you know who are the national champions for Australia for the Junior Robocup? That's correct the answer is Auroa Primary School from Taranaki, New Zealand. As regular readers of this site will know earlier this year the Robo's (James, Tom, Michaela and Lucas) completed the Junior Robotics Robocup Triple Crown winning first the regional Whanganui Robocup Competititon, then winning the New Zealand National Competition in Dunedin before travelling to Brisbane to take on the Australians. The Boys triumphed in that and this video is a combination of photography and film from that event. Created by Lucas and James, Room One, Auroa Primary School, by footage supplied by Mrs Knappman.

Auroa School: Australian Robocup Champions!
Breaking News! The Robos Auroa Primary School Robotics team 'the Robos' have had an amazing achievement claiming first place in the Australian Robocup Competition!
The Boys are already regional and national champions and today in Australia, the team have been declared champions competing not only against teams from Australia but China as well. We are going to be publishing footage and details of the event when it comes to hand.
The Robos 25/9/14 from Myles Webb on Vimeo.
In the meantime for those of you who want to see what all the fuss was about this video is from Thursday 25th September, the day before Tom, Lucas, James and Michael travelled to Australia for competition. They showed their full performance, which was considerably different from previous versions to the school. Recorded by Harley from Room One.
This version of the performance is significantly different from the boys national winning performance, for Australia the Boys had to work with a three metre square mat (instead of 1.8m). Also in the New Zealand version our Boys were limited to four robots, for Australia the team had to adapt to having unlimited robots as well.
On behalf of the school we would like to congratulate all the team, their families and friends for the fantastic support that they have received for this amazing achievement. It goes without saying that there is significantly more material to come.

Auroa School Robotics: The Regionals
Such excitement at the moment at Auroa Primary School. Earlier this year we had a number of teams (nine) competing in the Robocup Regionals at Whanganui. This was the first step for our teams for an attempt at the national New Zealand title. The Robos, Tom, Lucas, Michael and James were able to win the regional competition and as some of you will know from visiting our class page or school page they have also recently triumphed and won the New Zealand Title for Robotic Theatre. We couldn't be more proud of the boys and their fantastic effort. We've been holding onto some amazing footage at the different stages of competition and now its been completed we are able to officially share some of the previously footage was a closely guarded secret. This is the footage of the original Whaganui Robocup Prize Winning Performance, the team (les James who was unavailable as he was overseas) taking the title in convincing fashion.

The biggest news related to this are not only The Robos regional, and national champions, later this term they are taking on the Australians as the team are preparing to go to Australia for the Australian Robocup at the end of the month. We will be of course updating the blog with posts about this and shortly sharing footage with you of the Boys National winning performance in Dunedin.

Auroa Primary Schools 3d Printing Project
Thank you for your visit to our class page. Students in New Zealand are currently on their term two holiday breaks and will return to school on the week starting Monday 21st July. Our students have continued publishing in the meantime and you can see examples of these from the students blogs on the right hand side of our page.
One of our most popular posts that occurred from last terms work was our 3d Printing Project. We've had a group of students working independently on a problem solving project. The students have identified the problem and moved through the problem solving process. The slideshow about the project has been updated and reflects the students progress.
The project has undergone twelve or so prints that have detailed the significant changes in the project as the students have continued to adapt their production. The best part has been the students who are the ones driving the project. They are also responsible for creating this video detailing the progress:
Where to next? On the first week of the term the students from Room One are going to mount the hinge on the door and ensure its completed and works. This will involve further testing and checking, and possibly more production. Our students will continue to document this process and post it online. Stay tuned and see you from 21st July.

3d Printer Design Classroom Project
During the past several weeks a group of Auroa Primary School students have been working on a design project with our 3d Printer. As mentioned in the original post it centred around a broken latch for a classroom cupboard in Room One.
Today was an exciting day in class as the students believe that they have solved the problem. The latch has taken many designs and many forms from its original incarnation to the version that has been printed in the last day. You can see details of this in the video created by the students. Michael and Logan, with the assistance of James, who is currently overseas have driven a project from the start.
They have identified the problem, created the design on paper (in their own time), designed it virtually (using Tinkercad), printed versions of the latch, re-designed the latch several times (currently in its eleventh version) and continued to re-model and redesign the latch. They are at the point were they have created a 'ball and joint' mechanism, modelled on a socket design, that fits perfectly and will tomorrow be attached to the cupboard to solve the problem.

A student solution to a problem with a great process and we couldn't be more proud of them. This video below was created by the students and detailed the entire process. The students are currently re-working a Google Presentation about the process which will be posted shortly. This video created by Michael and Logan on Thursday 3rd July, 2014.

Where in the world is James now?
Earlier this week we published work from one of our students who is currently overseas. We showed footage from James amazing experiences in Singapore that he created as a post and then put on his blog. Well James has moved on since then to another location and this slideshow/movie is just as amazing! Where is he now?

Classroom 3d Printer Project
Now that we have our 3d Printer up and running in class, we've had some students working on projects in their own time. The first project, which started last term, consists of a group of boys who have been looking to replace a broken hinge in the sink cupboard of the Room One classroom. This has been completely student driven and has meant that the boys involved have spent considerable amounts of their own time working on the project, but they have a done a fantastic job. Next week we are going to begin the final testing and evaluation of the project and we will be posting the results and details on the students blogs and on our class page.
