Taranaki Survivor: Episode One

This is the first episode of the new episodic web-show that students from Room Three will be competing in between now and the end of the school year. A detail application process saw two teams of nine selected (although the rest of the class are featuring in either challenges or behind the scenes!) in team Whero (red) or Kikorangi (blue). 

The two teams compete in challenges each week, eliminating one player if their team loses. In this challenge the teams had to complete a course while holding onto a rope - they had to work as a team and locate six markers along a pre-determined course. Every member of the team needed to hold onto the rope - otherwise there was a thirty second time penalty.

Who would work together? Would walking the course work better than jogging it and risk falling over? Who would have victory? Would Whero or Kikorangi be the first to eliminate a team member?

Thanks Mr C - no-ones found the idol yet - they've been hunting for it, but haven't been able to locate it on the basis of the clues provided (this will be broadcast in episode four coming in a week or so) but I think that's great advice for a contestant hopefully who-ever finds the first idol will heed your advice!

    1. Thanks for your comment - the production values are a bit better than when it was done on Movie Maker a while ago (by Mr Webb) its amazing the difference that iMovie makes.

  5. What a cool idea! i would love to watch more, some ideas for challenges are both of the teams have to do a Tokugawa to win. i would love if you could respond and tell my more.

    1. I have know idea what-so-ever for what a 'Tokugawa' is - but I am really keen about ideas and details that would make a great challenge so I will look into it and see.

  6. Hello survivors!
    That was awesome! One of My Teachers had us doing survivor last year! It was so fun! We based it on books we read. My team was inspired by Kensukes Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Such a good book! We are fortunate enough to have a forest behind our school and we were given about 45 minutes to search through the trees and bushes for a hidden coconut with our teams banner on it. And then... we got to eat Fresh Coconut! Which is very rewarding after searching for it for almost an hour! ;D

      That sounds like an amazing challenge - I really like that idea and I might use it when we have one of our challenges later in the series. Thanks for the idea. I also have to commend you on your fantastic comment - what an amazing effort and a model to other students on how to comment.

  7. Hi Mr.Webb,
    I love Surviver! I think it's a great way to challenge students to do new tasks, work as a team and learn to communicate. Two years ago I had a teacher put together a surviver theme activity, we were divided into groups based on books we read about surviving on small islands or jungles. My team was based on the book Kensukes Kingdom my Michael Morpurgo (same as Liv) it's a really great book and I recommend it to your class to read. We had colours to represent each team, my team's colour was orange. Our teacher put together either a hunt for a coconut in the forest, and afterwards we got to taste pure coconut, or trying to pick up as many marbles with our toes as we possibly could or even a search for our team colour hidden somewhere on the field. I am really impressed how you and your class recorded the surviver, it was really capturing and I love the detail when you were introducing all the students, it really reminds me of the show. I also like how you had your students pose for their name somewhere outside, it really gives that surviver feel. Great job everybody!
