French at Auroa Primary School

Every Friday we have the Auroa Primary School Junior STEM program for our Y1-3 students.  At the same time for our seniors we have Kapa Haka and Japanese.  We have a third group of students who are learning French.  Earlier this year we were contacted by the CM Brindas School from Brindas in the Rhone-Alps in France.   We're going to be collaborating with them in the near future - however the fact that they are naturally French speakers and the fact that we're learning French seem too good of an opportunity for us to pass up.  Our students produced these examples of them speaking basic French.

  1. Bonjour à tous les amis de Nouvelle-Zélande !
Tomorrow, my students will watch your videos. We will certainly tell you what we think about them. But anyway, we really would be pleased to hear you speak our language. Congratulations !
    A très bientôt !

  3. Bonjour à tous.
We have seen the four French speaking videos which are on your class blog. Congratulations for your performance. You ask us to choose the best one and it's very difficult for us to decide. We didn't succeed on the spot to tell which one we preferred, because each little scene has its own quality, different from the others.
    - Charlotte and Reenee are the pupils we did understand the best ; they have got the rightest pronunciation. Riley and Caleb are pretty good too in that way.
    - Jessica, Kaiah and Caitlin have said the best grammatically build text and the richest in vocabulary.
    - Aroha and Tamara have made the most beautiful and the neatest video.
So, it is perhaps this one which will get the golden award.
We are going to do a writing work from your dialogues ; we will send it to you in a while, when everything is written and when we have filmed ourselves.
    A très bientôt.

  4. Thanks so much for your comments - I have shared them with the students this morning and they have loved the feedback. Its been a wonderful experience for them to have their worked judged by students and a teacher in class.
