Dear Room One,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are going to have a very busy week! I love the idea of a lamb and calf day; it reminded me that your seasons are not the same as ours! We are moving from Autumn towards winter - there are no lambs or calves in our fields now. We have plenty of farmers in our class - and in our spring many of them are kept incredibly busy with lambing. How many of your class are farmers? Do you all bring in a lamb or a calf? Who does the judging?
In our area, we have a number of agricultural shows over the summer where many of our children show their livestock. I have NEVER heard of anything like this happening in a school, though - is it common in NZ or are you quite unique?

DeleteThanks so much for your comment. Yes our seasons are the opposite. We have 95% of our students and their families involved in the dairy farming industry with them either working on or living on farms. Some of our families get incredibly busy during calving (the biggest farms would have over 500 cows).
For Lamb and Calf Day we have outside judges come in and judged the animals. We have 200 students at our school and this year about 100 brought animals. Its common in most of the Primary Schools that would be in rural areas like we are.
When you say never does that mean that your students don't have best animal competitions? Do they have like a local town competition that they can enter?

It seems like you had lots of fun preparing it. In our school, we have agriculture day, which is a bit like this but the range of animals (and other stuff) is more wider
ReplyDeleteWow very creative ideas. It looks like a lot of fun :)
