Taranaki Survivor: Episode One

Taranaki Survivor: Episode One from Myles Webb on Vimeo.
This is the first episode of the new episodic web-show that students from Room Three will be competing in between now and the end of the school year. A detail application process saw two teams of nine selected (although the rest of the class are featuring in either challenges or behind the scenes!) in team Whero (red) or Kikorangi (blue).

The two teams compete in challenges each week, eliminating one player if their team loses. In this challenge the teams had to complete a course while holding onto a rope - they had to work as a team and locate six markers along a pre-determined course. Every member of the team needed to hold onto the rope - otherwise there was a thirty second time penalty.

Who would work together? Would walking the course work better than jogging it and risk falling over? Who would have victory? Would Whero or Kikorangi be the first to eliminate a team member?

Science in R3: Mould

Senior Maths Challenge 2015

This is a post by Madaline from Room Two who wrote about the Senior Mathematics Challenge that took place at Auroa Primary School Hall on Tuesday.

On Tuesday all the senior classes from Auroa School came  together for a competition to see who was best at doing maths grids and a game called kahoot.

First up there was the grids where four people from each senior class had to complete a 6 by 6 multiplication grid. The fastest time would win. In our team there was Joe, Caleb, Astin and I. It was very hard and I managed to get 100% in the time of 1.10. My sister Jorja got a time of 1.11 so I just bet her. It was a lot of fun and some kids came in a time of 40secs!

Secondly there was the Kahoot competition. Four kids from each senior class has to get some quickfired answers chucked at them and you had to get the right answer out of a multichoice of 4 answers. The only problem was everyone was doing those quickfire answers at the same time so if you got it wrong and they got it right they would be higher up the leader board. Kaiah Bloor from Room 1 took that competition out. Below there is a slideshow of the action.

R3's End of Year Project: Taranaki Survivor

This week its the last week of Term Three for Auroa Primary School. Our students are looking forward to the end of the term break and we have a really important deadline this Friday - the entries from our students for the MOA Awards close on Friday. We've also got the first episodes of our special online episode internet show starting - which is Taranaki Survivor. Mr Bloor, Auroa Primary Schools Amazing AV Man has produced a stunning video which we're going to use as the opening credits. Our students had a first challenge of the show - they had to have a 'serious' face when they were formed for the opening sequence - which wasn't as easy as everyone thought! During the holidays we'll be showing several episodes - apart from being contestants our students are also responsible for the filming, editing, props and planning so everyone is involved including the eliminated contestants. First episode will be released later this week.

R3 Seeking Input About Tornadoes!

This coming week Room Three have the School Science Fair. As part of this event we have students presenting about a variety of topics.  Two of the most prolific bloggers from Room Three, Caro and Jorja are looking at Tornadoes and how they form.  We have some limited local experience here in New Zealand (with one in the last ten years).  What we are looking for is additional experiences and information from students and teachers who have personal experiences with Tornadoes.

Do you have them in your region? Do you have information about them? Are there some special ways in which you have to be prepared for them? Can you share some information or photographs or other media about them? Would it be possible to Skype and talk about them?

Thank you so much for having a look at this post and if you could help us we'd really appreciate it! You can leave a comment here or email Mr Webb directly at mwebb@auroa.school.nz

French at Auroa Primary School

Every Friday we have the Auroa Primary School Junior STEM program for our Y1-3 students.  At the same time for our seniors we have Kapa Haka and Japanese.  We have a third group of students who are learning French.  Earlier this year we were contacted by the CM Brindas School from Brindas in the Rhone-Alps in France.   We're going to be collaborating with them in the near future - however the fact that they are naturally French speakers and the fact that we're learning French seem too good of an opportunity for us to pass up.  Our students produced these examples of them speaking basic French.

That we had to hit the ball harder. Then it got harder and harder each time. After that we did a competition against the whole class.Catherine and I were buddies and we were the first one to get to the finals. Then Caro and Katelyn got though after that. Caro got 3rd,Katelyn and Catherine tied in 2nd and I 1st out of the class."
