Auroa Primary School - Tour of the School Library

Room One students are currently producing tour films of a particular aspect of Auroa Primary School. Each student has individually planned a film highlighting an interesting area of our school. The criteria was the movie had to be two to three minutes in length, explain an area of the school paying special attention to our audience including those people from overseas who might not be familiar with some aspects of school in New Zealand. This video is a tour of our school library, filmed by Tom and Lucas. Produced and edited by the students on Friday 21st February 2014.

Questions to consider: have the students answered the brief? What criteria could they improve on? Do you think that the 'dive' part of the movie (into the beanbag) is appropriate?

    I love reading!
You have lots of different genres of books!
Do you go to the library often?

  2. Hi Lucas and Tom,
I am a huge library fan so I was drawn straight to your video.

The Auroa School library looks lovely and bright. It looks like a cosy place to bury yourself in a great book. In fact, I would have loved to have seen a little bit more of your library.
I love the way that you have demonstrated what a comfy library you have by showing us the beanbags. I would have love to have seen more of the books. I saw an Augmented REality display in the background and hoped you might talk about the display or perhaps pull a favourite book off the shelf to show the variety of books you have.

A couple of my wonderings- do you have student librarians? Do you have a teacher or librarian who is in charge of the library? I love your scanner- are students able to issue their own books?

Good work, Lucas and Tom. Thank you for sharing your library with us.

  3. Hi I'm Imogen
I'm from South Africa and from one of the classes you sent parcels to. My teacher is Ms Tyler Smith and I think you've already seen her blog.

Your library looks so nice! We also used to have beanbags in our library but they got taken out for some reason. I don't know. To take out our books we have to give them to the librarian and they have to type the code in manually.

Thanks for the parcel. (: It had really cool stuff in it! Our teacher showed us how to make blogs and last year I made a Nintendo one. (http://nintendostuff101.blogspot.com/)

  4. Hi Lucas and Tom,
I enjoyed being able to see your library, I oversee our year 6 librarians at our school, make sure it's tidy, we have new books and our displays are seasonal. What do the numbers by your books mean? We have micro librarian and a scanner too, its quite popular, the children love scanning their books out. I'm not sure about the diving on the bean bags, I guess it depends who your intended audience for your film is but they do look comfortable.

  6. Hi Lucas and Tom,

I enjoyed seeing your library, I oversee our year 6 librarians and make sure our library is tidy, up to date and our displays are current and seasonal. We use micro librarian and have a scanner for our books, the children love being able to scan their books out.

I'm not sure about the dive on the beanbags, I think it depends on who your intended audience is for your film. However, they do look very comfortable, we don't have any of them in our library.

What are the numbers for by your books?
