Taranaki Survivor: Episode Five

Its the fifth episode of the episodic adventure game Taranaki Survivor.

In this challenge the students had to catch one of two balls thrown or kicked into an area by one member of their team. Each member who was able to catch one of the thrown objects on the 'full' received a point for their team, or three if they were able to catch a long 'punt'.
Kikorangi were down three players on Whero and looking to try even things up on their arch rivals... Whero were looking to continue their dominance of the game.. a merge is on the cards at some point and in both teams there are players looking to make it through to the next stage of competition.   While none of the players know when the merge is one thing for certain is that at the end of this episode one more player won't make it that far... but will an immunity idol come into play - what of the mysterious powers that various players have managed to gain at this point? who is the player who has gained control of the first immunity idol? when will it make an appearance? will the 'redemption idol' make an appearance bringing another player back into the game? All these questions are waiting to be answered and some will be answered in this episode of Taranaki Survivor!

Aroha's Information Report on the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower.
It was built in January 28 ,1887. The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel. The Eiffel Tower was built for the world fair. It was supposed to be up for a year then be demolished but it stayed up because it was popular. After the Eiffel tower was finished it was taller than the Great Pyramid of Giza and became the tallest tower in the world. The Eiffel Tower has 20,000 light bulbs and it lights up at night. The Eiffel Tower is an iconic (famous) building all around the world. I would like to go to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower but a flight to Paris cost to much and i live way too far from Paris . Aroha

Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal was designed in 1631 and it finished in 1653. The Taj Mahal is located in India. The Taj Mahal was recognised as Jewel of Muslim art, in India. The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Often the Taj Mahal is mistaken as a palace, this is a very famous building. The Taj Mahal was actually built as a tomb for the Empire’s wife after she died giving birth to her 14th child. When the Taj Mahal was getting built they started to get bricks and carrying them on elephants. It took 33 years to build and when it had been completed it was 1653 it was located in India. When the Taj Mahal was finished Shah Jahan ordered that every single worker had to have one of their hand amputated so the Taj Mahal couldn't be recreated again. The cost to get in the Taj Mahal is 1000 rupees which in New Zealand it is $22. Taj Mahal is 73 metres to the tippy top. I wish that I could go to India and see the Taj Mahal but I live too far away. It would be awesome if I could go to the Taj Mahal. It is an awesome place so you should go check it out.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode Four

The greatest classroom internet competition of all time - two teams of nine students competing against each other in a series of challenges to find the ultimate winner.

Having battle through three episodes - with Kikorangi losing first, for Caro's elimination and then Ashley in episode two, they had gained some momentum back forcing Whero to lose Aroha in episode three.  This meant this episode was potentially crucial - with either a 2:2 tie going forward or a huge 3:1 advantage.

This episode saw the contestants competing against each other in the 'Tower of Doom'.  A simple premise - eight blocks stacked end on end on end and then an elimination block placed on top. However nerves meant a simple task took on an added edge for the contestants.

Taranaki Survivor Episode 4 from myles webb on Vimeo.

However the stakes were high as was the twist - losing team members would only vote if they won their respective duels, meaning potentially only one vote would send someone home.

This episode featured a dramatic finish in the final duel that has to be seen to be believed! Who would move forward in the game? Whose time would be up in the vote that followed? What of the immunity idols - it has been revealed that at least one has been located by a player however their identity has so far remained secret - would these come into play? Whose game is about to end and whose moving one step forward in the greatest internet competition of all time!  All the answers are contained in the latest episode just released!

French Visitors from Brindas School

One of the schools that we've been regularly collaborating with here in Auroa Primary School in New Zealand has been from Brindas School in France.

Last week we had an amazing experience - a French family whose children attend Brindas School made it all the way to New Zealand as part of a world trip and they came to visit us! It was an amazing experience for our students to meet such nice people and someone who had come so far.

Learning from the Hawks in the UK

We've previously posted on our class page how we were using the work of the Hawks Class from the UK as an inspiration with our writing, and their 'I am Tim Peake!' creative letter writing.  As well as creating a slideshow for their class we thought that it would also be fun to make a video talking about their work.  This video was filmed, edited and put together by Aroha and Ashley.  You can click on the link here to the original post.

Today we hosted Ngaere School in the first round of competition. The Girls Netball team, semi-finalists last year put on a commanding performance winning 27-2. Hockey saw the honours go to our visitors with Ngaere winning 3-6. Rugby was dominated by Auroa Primary School, winning 65-5. We are looking forward to the visit of Eltham Primary School next week.

Taranaki Survivor - Episode Three

The contestants had a question to ponder this week... who was the first (alphabetically) based on their surname and who is the last (alphabetically).   How well do the students know their classmates and school mates?

With two hundred students at Auroa Primary School the tasks wasn't as easy as it seems... with both teams working together against each other in the same room... communication could be crucial...

Kikorangi had lost two consecutive challenges... but one team was about to make an epic mistake that would cost them the game... already one of the best performers from last years season had been eliminated in a shock upset -  was another on the cards?

All that is certain is that someone's game was about to end as the third episode of Survivor Taranaki meant there were now only fifteen of the original players remaining...  all these pressing questions will be answered in the greatest student blogging internet competition game of all time...

Writing Exemplars from the UK

We're always looking for fantastic examples of work of other students that we can use as examples.  In writing at the moment we've discovered some writing from the Hawks from lford Primary School in the UK.  They're been writing letters from the perspective of Tim Peake, a UK astronaut who has just arrived on the ISS (International Space Station).   They have posted a series of letters from him describing his experiences from his perspective.

In Room Three, Auroa Primary School, New Zealand - we've spent two days looking at their writing.  We have highlighted the writing features that have been used like metaphors and similes.  We've blown the writing up to A3 size and we've added colour and additional information and we're about to mount it on our wall - and use it to improve our writing.

#2016GBC Introduction

My Movie 11 from Myles Webb on Vimeo.

We're part this year of the #2016GBC - the 2016 Global Blogging Challenge. This is an opportunity for us to collaborate and join in and work with students around the world. The first task this week was an introductory post. We've just started doing this in class on Friday, a quick introduction with our students talking about who we are.

The Katydid

The Katydid www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=katydid

katydids eat leaves, flower stems and fruit of many kinds. the Katydid is a bug that looks like a leaf bug but is not a leaf it chips when it wants. There is a rare pink/red one and a yellow but is very rare. They are found on tree branches and bushes. They go through 3 different stages to be born first is the egg then the nymph and last is the Adult. There lifespan is from the egg to Adulthood the last about one year. Katydid it a relative to the grasshopper they are known as bush bugs The Katydid is common but it camouflage into the plants because of the color and pattern on the wings. By Aroha Nathan and Ashley

Where Nathan found it the Katydid inside the house in the lounge on the window sill then Nathan caught the katydid and trapped in the jar.

Taranaki Survivor: Episode 2

The second episode of the 2016 season of the greatest online student blogging competition of all time.  Two teams of nine students competing in an epic competition against each other where one will be the ultimate survivor and defeat all others to claim the title of greatest survivor!

After last weeks shock elimination of the 2015 Runner Up Caro no-one felt safe moving into the challenge.   Whero and Kikorangi had to battle against each other by showing teamwork.  They had five hoops and four chairs and had to be the first to complete a course gaining themselves the immunity donkey.  Anyone who stepped out of the course and touched the ground would cause their team to receive a one minute penalty - while its still early days in the competition last weeks episode proved the no-one is safe: whose team work will lead them to victory? who would work together better as a team? would an immunity idol be played? whose game would come to an end and be the second player eliminated from the competition?

All these questions will be answered in the second episode of Taranaki Survivor - the greatest classroom blogging competition of all time!

Aroha's Cow Ride Recount

The Amazing Cow Ride

In the first week of the school holidays I was invited to Ashley's house. Ashley and I were playing with her cow Ella just before milking. When we were playing we heard the motorbike pulling up It was Ashley's mum. I asked if I could ride Ella. Ashley's mum said yes!.

I jumped onto the side of the feed pad and lifted my right leg up and swung it over the cow and I jumped up onto her back. I was sitting happily on her back on her I said to Ashley “ Jump on and see if we both can be on her together.” As soon as Ashley lifted her leg up Ella moved away, Ashley fell back and landed in the mix. I was still riding when Ella was moving. Ashley's mum grabbed me off safely I said “Now it is Ashley's turn.”

Ashley jumped up and tried to get on Ella but she ran to the other feed pad. Ashley fell. I caught her. She said “Let go of me or you will fall on me.”

We walked home to get ready for milking. I said “I will do cow riding again I think that it a little bit dangerous but fun.”

This recount was written by Aroha is Room Three and details some of the awesome things that she got up to in the School Holidays.

Photographic Slideshows from Room Three

Its the start of Term Two for 2016 - our students are back in the classroom and looking forward to a fantastic term. Yesterday we took our iPads (everyone at our school has one) and we went around five different locations at Auroa Primary School and took a series of images showing our school. We then altered the images and discussed which ones to publish and which ones to alter. These are the results from some of the groups: This is Te Rau's group who used their iPads to take these images. We were thinking about space, angles and magnifying our pictures for different angles and results.

Tiani's Holiday: Mount Taranaki

Morning walk from myles webb on Vimo

On the first week of the holidays my mum, sisters and me went for a morning walk up to Dawson pools that is half way up Mt Taranaki. There were blue waterfalls and a beautiful site of the sea.
